Phan Thiet Airport could make Mui Ne easier to reach in the coming years. The project is moving forward, but travellers planning a trip today still need to use existing airports or travel by road and rail. Here is what has been confirmed and what the new airport could mean for a Mui Ne holiday.
What is the status of Phan Thiet Airport?
Phan Thiet Airport is a joint military and civilian project in Mui Ne Ward, Lam Dong Province. Its military facilities have already entered use. The Lam Dong provincial authorities report that construction of the civilian facilities began on 27 April 2026. The planned first-phase capacity is around two million passengers per year.
In a June 2026 construction update, Vietnam News Agency reported that the province was working toward opening the civilian airport in 2027. Travellers should wait for official airline announcements before assuming that a particular route, fare or opening date is available.

How could the airport change a Mui Ne trip?
Direct flights to the Phan Thiet area, if airlines launch them after the civilian airport opens, could give domestic travellers another way to reach Mui Ne without a long transfer from a distant airport. Easier access may also help more visitors combine the coast with a short stay focused on the sand dunes, local food and fishing village. The actual benefit will depend on the routes, flight times, prices and ground transport offered when operations begin.
For local tourism, more convenient arrivals could support hotels, restaurants and tour providers. For travellers, the practical question will be simple: Does a real flight fit your itinerary better than the road or rail journey? That comparison can only be made once flights are announced.
How do you reach Mui Ne now?
| Starting point | Current practical option | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Ho Chi Minh City | Bus, private car or train plus onward transfer | HCMC to Mui Ne |
| Cam Ranh Airport | Arrange a road transfer to your Mui Ne hotel | Cam Ranh transfer guide |
If you travel by train, check your ticket carefully: Phan Thiet Station and Binh Thuan Station are different stations, and both require onward transport to most Mui Ne hotels. There is no need to wait for the new airport to enjoy Mui Ne.
Make the most of your arrival
After checking in, allow time to rest before exploring the White Sand Dunes, Red Sand Dunes, Fishing Village and Fairy Stream. A local Jeep tour connects these four stops in one outing. Choose the 04:30 sunrise departure if you are already in Mui Ne the night before, or the 14:00 sunset departure if it suits your arrival day. Leave a buffer for flight, road or train delays.
Tour pickup note: Free hotel pickup and drop-off apply within Ham Tien and Mui Ne. Airport transfers are separate from the standard Jeep tour and must be arranged independently.
